About Chris Cook

I specialise in advising both businesses and individuals on all aspects of employment law. I regularly advise on procedural issues such as disciplinary and grievance matters. I have extensive experience in advising on redundancy/restructuring programmes and transfer of undertakings issues arising on the change in ownership of a business. I have frequently advise on collective redundancy programmes, collective changes in terms and conditions of employment and office relocations. A large proportion of my work involves dealing with employment tribunal and court litigation, including (where appropriate) negotiating directly with opponents or via ACAS to achieve the best possible result for my clients. I have significant expertise in data protection law that initially stemmed from my HR/employment practice area. More recently, I have advised a number of clients on the Data Protection Act 2018 (incorporating the GDPR) including conducting audits, giving a number of presentations, drafting of documentation and advising on best practice for compliance with the new law. I have given a number of seminars and workshops over the last few months covering a range of topics, but with particular focus on data protection law compliance. I also provide training on legislative compliance, which I am happy to offer in-house to clients. Having four children, I have developed a keen interest in education law and am advising an increasing number of clients in the education sector, including a number of nurseries, independent schools, higher education establishments, colleges and universities. I also head up the firm's Education Department, which has developed a fixed fee package to assist state schools convert to academy status.
