About Chris Dove

Chris leads Arsenal Data Analytics, a globally distributed interdisciplinary team of data scientists, research engineers, data engineers, insights analysts, software engineers and video analysts. Through a combination of applied research using AI/ML, classic data science, and insights analysis, their mission is to help Arsenal win trophies by ensuring that every decision at the club is informed by data. Their work spans player recruitment, team performance, player performance and development, and overall club strategy across the men's first team, women's first team, and various academy age groups. Before stepping into a leadership role in 2021, he worked as a data scientist and software engineer at the club, joining in 2016. Prior to Arsenal, he spent 11 years at Microsoft as a software engineer of various flavors across a variety of products spanning from the Distributed Transaction Coordinator in Windows (which amazingly is still running on billions of PCs) to internal security tooling for the Microsoft 365 cloud infrastructure. Before joining Microsoft, he managed to split his B.Sc. studies across 3 different universities, initially studying Music Performance at Northwestern University before settling on physics at The Evergreen State College with a year interlude at Uni-Heidelberg where he met his future partner Katja. He is a lifelong self-driven learner, especially values openness and curiosity, and he tries to reflect this both in his leadership style and pursuit of goals. He hails originally from the Seattle area, he is a devoted dad and partner, and he loves to share his curiosity and passion for the outdoors with his family and friends in the Wasatch Mountains near Salt Lake City, which he calls home since 2017.
