Background

About Chris Haynes

I joined the Geological Survey of Alabama in November 2021 as a Biologist II (Inland Fish Option). Originally from Choccolocco, Alabama, I moved to Tuscaloosa to attend The University of Alabama, where I earned a B.S. in Marine Science and Biology in 2013. Following UA, I pursued graduate studies at Nicholls State University in Louisiana. I continued my career in aquatic science as a Freshwater Fisheries Biologist II with the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission and later as an Environmental Scientist II with the Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality. My work has focused on fish community surveys, gamefish management, and water quality monitoring. At GSA, I help manage and contribute to statewide fish and habitat surveys, with a focus on Index of Biotic Integrity (IBI) assessments in Strategic Habitat Units. These efforts support the restoration, management, and protection of Alabama’s aquatic resources for future generations.
