About Chris Humphries

I am an academic emergency medicine doctor, now based in Edinburgh to undertake a 3-year Clinical Research Fellowship in clinical toxicology and advanced therapies (finishing 2026). Prior to this, I have been working as an NIHR-funded academic clinical fellow in emergency medicine, with a focus on clinical toxicology.I have a portfolio career across academic emergency medicine, clinical toxicology and formal medical research. I operate both as a researcher, and as a bridge between clinical toxicologists and emergency medicine clinicians, raising the profile of clinical toxicology and promoting best practice and research across specialties.In order to pursue this, I have engaged with research and national-level work: participating in the creation of national guidelines and sitting on expert advisory groups, alongside authoring publications relevant to emergency medicine and clinical toxicology. I have also obtained a postgraduate diploma in medical toxicology.Driven by a desire to develop and promote the best practice, I find teaching and training others rewarding and have developed relationships with universities, delivering sessions as a visiting lecturer.
