About Chris Janak

I am lucky to manage a team of talented, hard-working, quality-focused Roasters, and am supported by Senior Management that views Food Safety and Compliance as key contributors to Equator’s growth, success, and quality and sustainability commitment. Together, we have built and established comprehensive Food Safety and Compliance systems of excellence which I am proud to lead. Originally from Central Texas, I arrived in the San Francisco Bay Area at the end of 2009. My journey in coffee began with roasting at Weaver's Coffee & Tea under the tutelage of John Weaver, former Master Roaster for Peet's Coffee & Tea. In June of 2013 I was invited to join Equator Coffees, an established and award winning Bay Area coffee wholesale and retail operation. Equator's commitment to a sustainable, transparent approach spans more than two decades. Today, Equator operates eight cafes in the San Francisco Bay Area. In 2016, the U.S. Small Business Administration honored Equator by naming us the "National Small Business of the Year." Since our founding Equator has been a leader in sustainability and social responsibility. In 2011, Equator formalized its commitment to sustainability by becoming a certified B Corporation, making it the first California coffee roaster to do so.
