Sometimes you stumble into a career and end up liking it. That's what happened to me when I applied to VCU's Brandcenter back in 2015. And now here we are. I'm a writer who's worked on a couple handfuls of brands, done a bunch of broadcast and digital work, and pitched lots of new business. If that doesn't give you a sense for who I am, I don't know what will: Compatriots, I will not shy away from the truth of it. Here we stand on the brink. Of greatness. Of tragedy. Two destinies does this day hold. Two potential futures in which we must inevitably tread. For the fog of battle hides many mysteries, many a treacherous misstep, and the false paths of former, lost campaigns. And yet, I know that the light of righteous victory shines from each and every one of you. I know that no shroud of doubt hangs above our heads as it does our enemies. I know that in all of us resides the will of a thousand warriors from a thousand past lives lived and lost in the spirit of battle. On this day, when the air between the Earth and the heavenly halls of Valhalla is thinnest, we can hear the voices of our ancestors beckoning us to join them in infinite, victorious rest. But, to them we say, not yet. For this war is ours to win. May those we face know us only by the soles of our boots as they look up at us from the cold, dark earth. Huzzah! Huzzah! Huzzah!
