About Chris Lehto

I went to school for Computer Networking and A+ Computer repair in 2006 at Hancock County Technical Center. All throughout my high school years I had a strong interest in computers, software/web development, databases and computer networking management.For 8 years I was a satellite TV installation technician with Dish Network. The responsibilities in this job were evaluating and installing all the necessary hardware and equipment needed for customers to have a fully working satellite TV system, as well as training customers on use of advanced features and basic maintenance that can be performed safely by themselves. During this time, I also specialized in Satellite Internet services. Travelling was an everyday thing for this position, often out to rural areas and coastal islands where cell phone service wasn't even available. Other times I would travel out-of-state to help other districts seeing increased demand for new customers.Since 2014, I've been operating my own email server running on a Linux server. Through this I have learned a lot about the technical details of Email (DKIM, DMARC, SPF), spam filter control and impersonation prevention and continue to operate a stable and secure email server for personal use. These email skills have proved to be quite helpful in email deliverability issues for clients and aided in setting up and troubleshooting scan-to-email services on client's document scanners.In 2017 I joined Novatech installing, servicing and maintaining office-grade copiers and printers, occasionally working with high-speed production printers. Driving a box truck for delivery was a regular part of my job until I took on a Field Service Technician role, focusing on all aspects service and maintenance. This included both mechanical service and networking, print driver installs, etc. Later on, I took on a position with the Managed IT side of Novatech working with clients and addressing their networking and IT needs. My specialties here are Active Directory, Print Drivers, Office 365 and PaperCut.Since 2020, as a hobby to sharpen my skills, I've been operating a Home Lab out of my house, essentially running my own retired Dell rack server as a hypervisor with with a variety of Linux virtual machines serving various roles, including an email server, a VoIP server (running FreePBX) and a docker server that runs a variety of small utilities that I use and also practice web/software development on. This is essentially a miniaturized version of a small business/small enterprise network.
