About Chris Mallard

My curiosity and interest in data networking was sparked the first time I experienced the piercing scream of a dial-up modem way back in the early 90's. I was determined to understand how this magic worked, and the newly-discovered access to the Internet allowed me to learn about these unknown technologies. Many years later, I was responsible for supporting some of those (now legacy!) service-provider technologies that I had learned about and pieced together when I was just a teenager. Service-provider networking had obviously evolved and expanded quite a bit since that first spark. Continually keeping up with these newer technologies and architectures is always a constant reminder that there will always be so much more to learn, but also a measure of just how far I had already come. While my interest has been primarily with data networks, I am a student of technology - if it runs on 1s and 0s, I usually want to know at least something about how it works.
