About Chris Mason

I am an engineering and project director with a wide range of experience in public transport engineering covering rapid transit, rail and bus infrastructure from a variety of engineering management roles in the public and private sector in design, implementation and maintenance. From an Engineering Management Trainee with British Rail I progressed to technical and production management roles at train maintenance depots, giving intensive lessons in people management skills. I then joined Alstom Transportation Projects to work on worldwide transit system projects from light rail to TGV. Experience of bus infrastructure followed as West Yorkshire PTE’s Projects Section Manager and further light rail experience as Leeds Supertram Technical Manager before moving into consultancy where senior engineering roles include West London Tram Design Coordination Manager for TfL and Engineering Manager for the Edinburgh Tram system designer. I then moved back to West Yorkshire PTE (now Combined Authority) to provide drive and focus to the teams delivering major bus and rail station projects and have now returned to transport engineering consultancy with Atkins. I get particular satisfaction from making transport projects happen that benefit communities, businesses, and the economy. I have previously been an internal ISO9001 auditor and am a PRINCE2 Practitioner. Specialties: A tenacious problem-solver with a reputation for leading and motivating teams to make things happen, an enthusiastic manager with strong interpersonal skills and an effective communicator. I have particular skills in bringing a team together, solving internal and external interfaces and motivating teams to deliver in a positive but challenging environment.
