About Chris Nimmons

I started coding around 12 years old. Now this isn’t as impressive as it sounds, see my parents had this DOS computer (if I remember correctly it was an NEC), the QBasic compiler shipped with the machine and it came with a book. The first program I wrote used a bunch of LINE statements to display a 2-dimensional character and I had no idea what I was doing, but I was typing, and things were happening and that was cool! I got the character to move up, down, left and right - I had so much fun doing that and the time just flew by. I attempted to make the map larger by switching areas when the character moved to the edge of the screen, but things got real complicated, so being a kid with the attention span of a goldfish, I moved on to something else- completely forgetting about the game I had coded. After several college career moves, I eventually graduated from Savannah College of Art & Design with my degree in visual effects, but I still did not know what I wanted to commit to. A friend of mine from SCAD loved his job and had me interview at the company he worked at, Kiz Studios, and it was here that I was reunited with my passion for coding (Kristian if you’re reading this - thanks man!). Now 10 years after my first programming job, the programming world has shifted completely. The world runs on software and it seems it cannot exist without it. It’s complex, fast, wonderful and sometimes messy all at the same time! Being surrounded by technology can be such a great thing, but it’s all here to make us more productive. The older I get the more I have come to realize that our time is limited and we need to choose our initiatives with greater care. So it is with this thought in mind that I have come to the idea of compassionate programming. I want to make the world a better place by helping people through software.
