I'm a writer and editor with 16 years of staff and freelance experience, based in New York. I'm currently a contributor to the Village Voice film section, with national distribution to 14 papers in the Village Voice Media chain. I have four years of staff experience at a Kansas City alternative newsweekly called The Pitch, then owned by Village Voice Media. I edited the copy of dozens of freelancers, pitched story ideas, and wrote hundreds of pieces on the arts, culture, and media. In my position at nonprofit professional society ASME (American Society of Mechanical Engineers), I wrote, edited and proofread articles, newsletters and other content produced by my department for print and electronic distribution. I maintained the society’s social networking profiles including a LinkedIn group of over members. I composed press releases and submitted letters on behalf of the executive office. I'm deeply familiar with the Associated Press Stylebook, the Chicago Manual of Style, and adept at modifying copy to adhere to style and grammatical guidelines while preserving the writer's voice.
