Retired, I have been involved in Fleet Maintenance for 20 years and 6 years ago became the manager of the Logistics/Procurement/Warehousing/Fleet Maintenance departments for a DOD facility. I have held a Top Secret Security Clearance I was the lead on reorganizing the warehousing system for the base which was a type of satellite warehouse system where there were several warehouse all over the base. I did an assessment the buildings available on base and submitted several options to streamline the process. My number one option was to have one single warehouse and go to a just in time inventory system. In doing this we could greatly reduce the amount of inventory on base mainly by reducing duplication of inventory. This was the option they accepted. I created several metrics tracking procedures to better give management tools to make decisions on labor needs, billing clients for their transportation needs, vehicle repair costs, frequency of repairs, number of repairs, fuel usage tracking.
