About Chris Powell

People build great things, and teams can build amazing things. I'm a Software Engineering Leader who loves building teams as well as things. I am very proud of the amazing, inclusive team we've built at Charlotte Tilbury. We've gone from a small, scrappy start up team to a well-polished team that keeps making iteself better. I'm a strong believer that frameworks like Agile, Team Topologies and The Spotify Model provide good principals to follow, and similarly there are good points about the theory of Microservices but you have to adapt the the organisation you're in. I'm very proud of how we've combined our company values with the best bits of these ways of working in order to product a unique envrionment as we've scaled the team up and structured it appropriately. I have not taken a traditional route to a leadership role, different journeys bring different perspectives and can create a diversity of thought that helps us to see more different paths. I have experience of a wide range of environments, and ways of working. I have seen that not every setup suits everyone and successfully building a team requires knowing when the combination of the company, environment, team and person all fits well enough. Keeping current with tech is important to me and I do code occasionally to keep my knowledge and skills fresh. As a developer I was always more comfortable on the backed on in the DevOps space, but have done frontent work too.
