About Chris Riley

I am a CIMA qualified Finance Manager specialising in Financial Planning, Business Partnering and Process Improvement. I was trained by Morrisons Supermarkets through the Finance Graduate Scheme, meaning that I have experienced a variety of roles across the finance function. I have worked with a variety of different sized businesses, including a FTSE 100 company and an international business. I find creative problems to solutions, with some 'Out of the box' thinking and re-framing of problems. Combining with this is my teamwork and peer support, departments that I work with will often walk away with their problem solved. I am a supporter of automation in Finance, such as using RPA and Macros in Excel. For example, I simplified a BI report that previously took 30 minutes to just 2 minutes, by writing a Macro to do 90% of the process. This meant that I had more time to review the information before sending the report to be distributed to the external client. I am a Business Partner that has learnt from the best and, as such, I have developed my skills in Stakeholder Management, Time Management and ensuring that I am a helpful and approachable team member. For example, when I constructed the UK Budget for 2020, I prepared a presentation to explain to the key stakeholders, including the Country Head, what information I had used to construct it. I had set up regular meetings beforehand to understand their expectations. This meant that the Country Head was fully prepared to answer any questions from the CEO and their stakeholder. I am a firm believer in continuous learning and have been attending training programmes run by CIMA and IGD, as well as conducting my own learning into productivity and coding. I have been called an 'Excel Wizard' by many peers and I have run training sessions to help my colleagues with the more advanced formulas.(It is my personal mission to replace Vlookups and Hlookups with Index/Match formulas.)
