I'm a medical sociologist who specializes in the fields of public health and mental disorder. My work employs qualitative and mixed methods research approaches. My public health-related research explores infectious diseases prevention and access to treatment/care. I’m particularly interested in the relationship between community attitudes and beliefs about diseases and frontline public health practices. Currently my fieldwork focuses on rural areas. My interest in mental health focuses on medicalization and autism. I am currently heading a study that investigates the social meanings and identities of people diagnosed with Asperger syndrome. I am actively involved in all stages of research including study design, data collection, analysis, and dissemination of findings to lay and academic audiences.
