About Chris Shaw

My practices focuses on audits, criminal and civil investigations and litigation, and compliance within healthcare as well as the defense of white-collar criminal and other government investigations. Prior to joining Barclay Damon, I served for nearly a decade as the New York City regional director for the Medicaid Fraud Control Unit (MFCU) within the Office of the Attorney General, State of New York where I supervised a staff of over 90 attorneys, detectives, auditors and other healthcare professionals who investigated and prosecuted provider fraud within the State Medicaid program as well as patient abuse and neglect in residential care facilities. In that role, my teams and I individually investigated and prosecuted substance abuse treatment programs, pharmacies, diagnostic treatment providers, dental practices, home health care agencies, transportation companies, and individual practitioners, to name a few, for a variety of regulatory and criminal offenses. To date, I am the only prosecutor in MFCU’s history to investigate, charge and successfully prosecute a healthcare provider for enterprise corruption (racketeering), a charge typically limited to traditional organized crime figures. Before joining MFCU, I spent nearly 19 years with the Westchester County District Attorney's Office where I was, at different times, assigned to the Economics Crimes Bureau and the Felony Trial Division, where I prosecuted a variety of financial crimes and violent felonies, and the Appeals Bureau where I handled post-verdict litigation at all levels within the New York State court system, including before the New York State Court of Appeals. I am excited to bring my years of experience and insight to helping individuals and healthcare providers navigate the complex and often fraught government investigative and prosecutorial process.
