Retiring Feb 4, 2019 and starting/resuming my career as an analytical chemist with Chemours Fluoroproducts (Teflon*) without having to relocate! The past five years were largely consumed by LDAR but my real job is for general air permitting and compliance, including MACT rules such as HON, MON, Generic, and Haz Waste Combustors. In 2014, the DuPont Washington Works facility became subject to an EPA consent decree - the type that imposes Low-Leak replacement requirements for valves and connectors. I was asked to lead the effort, though with no real authority to set the program. Three separate business groups were subject, but because the facility split as part of the Chemours separation in 2015, two of the units are now part of Chemours but are still in the Decree. Fortunately I am skilled at leading by influence. We passed a milestone on Oct 30, 2014 when we submitted our compliance documents. Since then we have conducted four very successful third party audits with ERM and in the 2018 version the consultant ranked our facility as "Best in Class" for LDAR performance. We will soon be petitioning to terminate the decree. In the mean time we have been very active with updating and correcting construction and operating permits, including negotiating for more appropriate monitoring parameters, reporting, ISO 14001, and still more corporate changes.
