Background
About Chris Skorge
Lean and Toyota Production System (TPS) Experience Manufacturing 450: Standardized Work (May 2014) • Class spent a 40 hour work week at Parker Hannifin-Racor Division in Holly Springs, MS • Applied the root cause analysis (“5 Why”) developing solutions to the questions ‘why the defects happened’ and ‘why the defects passed’ within the Pamic Air Filter Division. The 8-inch and/ or 16-inch air filters occurred issues separating after the fracture clamps were applied along the perforated edges. • Results proved a lack of maintenance was performed sharpening the slitter and trimmer blades upstream of the problem occurring. The various pressure levels applied were maintained within regulated psi ranges. Manufacturing 350: Manufacturing Process Definition (May 2013) • Class spent a 40 hour work week at Parker Hannifin-Racor Division in Holly Springs, MS • My group focused on a carousel process line of 3 workers that manufactured various size fuel filters (24”-60”). Throughout the week, we implemented several Kaizen to help worker comfort, changeover, and overall ability to meet production goals. Manufacturing 254: Art & Science of Manufacturing (August 2013) • Class spent 8 hours a day for 5 days at Viking Range in Greenwood, MS learning about Layout, Process Flow, Kaizen, and other TPS practices. Specifically, I worked with the sander operator within the stove-top hood department, while their primarily focus around quality control. • During the week, several Kaizen were implemented to improve quality; specifically, improving the consistency of the floor employees sanding the spot welding. It is most important to create a detailed standard, while understanding where defects typically occur to accomplish more standardized work. • At the end of the course, the class submitted a revised Process Layout accommodating for a more efficient process flow with the available floor space. The alterations were presented to Viking Range in hopes to assist takt times.
