Chris Smysnuck is an accomplished Risk Audit and Compliance professional who currently leads the Internal Audit and Risk Management group at Eldorado Gold where he is focused on driving improvements in risk management and control within the organization through the development and execution of a risk based integrated internal audit plan that appropriately addresses operational, financial and compliance risks faced by Eldorado's global operations. Eldorado Gold is a mid-tier gold and base metals producer with mining, development, and exploration operations in Türkiye, Canada and Greece. The Company’s activities involve all facets of mining, including exploration, development, production, reclamation and rehabilitation. Their vision is to build a safe, sustainable and high-quality business in the gold mining sector. Chris was also Vice President of Risk and Audit Services at Teekay Corporation, where he was responsible for executing the global Internal Audit program at one of the world’s largest energy transportation companies. While at Teekay, his leadership in facilitating Enterprise Risk Management initiatives increased organizational awareness of its importance in the achievement of corporate objectives. Chris is an accomplished finance professional with over 20 years of experience in the Audit, Risk and Compliance space both with his time at Eldorado, Teekay and in his previous roles in public accounting at Grant Thornton and Ernst & Young. In addition to his university degrees in Business and Political Science, Chris is a Chartered Professional Accountant (CA), a Certified Internal Auditor, an ISO 9001:2015 Lead Auditor, and holds a Certification in Risk Management Assurance.
