Chris Thiran, founder of Belgium Wine Watchers and Best Wine Auctions, never set out to become a traditional wine merchant. His journey began in the kitchen of his brasserie Sablon in Brasschaat, where his passion for gastronomy led him to personally select and serve exceptional wines. A spontaneous visit to a local wine auction changed everything. After purchasing a few rare bottles—including one with the same name as his restaurant—Chris began offering older, unique wines to his guests. Their enthusiastic response sparked a new venture. What started as a side project quickly outgrew the restaurant. In Chris launched Belgium Wine Watchers, initially operating from the floor above his brasserie. His relentless drive and deep love for wine turned the small business into a large-scale operation, moving from location to location until settling into a 1,400 m² facility. Years later, he co-founded Best Wine Auctions—a modern digital platform designed to bring trust, transparency, and top-quality wines to collectors and enthusiasts worldwide. Today, Belgium Wine Watchers and Best Wine Auctions complement each other perfectly, serving both private collectors and professional wine dealers.
