Background
About Chris Yoculan
My artistic journey is deeply rooted in a blend of community activism, mental health advocacy, and creative expression. With a background in Fine Arts from the Columbus College of Art and Design, I have spent my career navigating the intersection of art and social impact, driven by a desire to uplift marginalized voices and create spaces for healing through creativity. As an artist, my work is inspired by the complexities of human experience, particularly within the communities I serve. I draw from my leadership roles in mental health organizations and coalition building to explore themes of resilience, identity, and collective empowerment. My creative process mirrors the hands-on approach I’ve honed through years of working with underserved populations—grounded in empathy, collaboration, and a deep respect for the stories that emerge through shared artistic endeavors. In addition to my studio practice, I have had the privilege of leading arts programming at the 9Muses Art Center, fostering environments where creativity serves as a catalyst for both personal growth and community transformation. My work as Director of Services at Mental Health America of Southeast Florida has further solidified my commitment to leveraging art as a tool for advocacy, healing, and systemic change. Whether through digital mediums, mixed media, or large-scale community art projects, my work invites reflection on the ways we navigate mental health, connection, and identity in the contemporary world. I continue to be inspired by the power of art to break barriers and to foster inclusion and understanding in every space it touches.
