About Christian Hyde

Radiation oncologist with experience leading 9 clinical trials of proton therapy and pioneering techniques that spare healthy tissue to deliver safer, more precise cancer treatment- Helped lead adoption of upright seated proton therapy, going from 2 rooms to 4 rooms in major expansion using only half the space of a normal proton room- Led our team initiative in making protons more accurate, more efficient and less harmful by reducing range uncertainty 25%- Championed $1 million Raystation install to provide our proton patients with safer biological dose calculations. Besides protons, I am pursuing research on 2 other techniques showing great promise: FLASH Xray therapy and SFRT (Spatially Fractionated RT)- typically given as GRID, Lattice or Minibeams. These urgently need translational research to develop their clinical potential. I love teaching others about protons, passing on what I learned during my 2018-2019 fellowship at William Beaumont Hospital, speaking at conferences in the US, UK and Canada. As Clinical Assistant Professor at Wayne State University, I created a proton curriculum for our radiation oncology residents including a 3-month mini-fellowship, monthly lectures, and mentoring in clinical trial design.
