About Christian Johnson

As Vice President of the Virginia Tech Cyber Club, I assisted leading an educational program that teaches students practical cybersecurity skills through classroom and hands-on training, as well as competitions (CTFs). I am passionate about empowering and inspiring fellow Hokies to pursue careers in this field and to stay updated on the latest trends and threats in the cyber landscape. I also created and led the opportunity for qualified students to get course credit by participating in the 2023 MITRE embedded capture the flag competition, a four-month long challenge that involves hacking and defending embedded systems. I am proficient in Linux, QEMU, EEPROM, and other tools and techniques that are essential for this domain. I hold an eCTF Attack Phase Completion certification issued by MITRE Engenuity, which demonstrates my ability to successfully penetrate and exploit vulnerable systems. I have received a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science with a specialization in Secure Computing from Virginia Tech, where I also served as a Teaching Assistant for the Information Security course. In this role, I helped students learn the basics of ethical hacking and apply security principles covered in the CompTIA Security+ certification in real world scenarios. I am motivated by the vast and dynamic field of systems security, and I aspire to become a leader and innovator in this area.
