About Christian Skunk

I'm a JD candidate at the University of South Dakota Knudson School of Law (Class of 2027), committed to advancing policy and governance for Native American and rural communities. As a first-generation law student and public servant, I've had the honor of serving both as a Tribal Council Member for the Lower Brule Sioux Tribe and as a County Commissioner for Lyman County. With a Master of Public Administration and a Bachelor’s in Political Science from USD, my background spans tribal administration, cultural preservation, infrastructure policy, and community development. I’ve led initiatives from transportation and economic development to public information and tribal tourism, always with a focus on building strong, sovereign Native nations. Currently, I serve as Vice-President of the South Dakota Native Tourism Alliance and as a Trustee for the Dakota Indian Foundation, among other leadership roles in the Lower Brule community. At law school, I stay active through the Native American Law Student Association, First Generation Law Society, Student Bar Association and Student Government Association. My passion lies in creating policy that uplifts Native voices, strengthens communities, and leads to lasting, equitable change.
