Background
About Christina Benjamin
Professional Involvement/Experience: My theme is professional involvement to the greatest extent possible. My professional involvement and volunteer efforts have been featured in AHIMA Advantage, Advance for Health Information Professionals and the Journal of AHIMA. I write articles for the following publications including multiple HcPro publications, AHIMA’s CodeWrite, and For the Record. I serve as both co-author and manuscript editor for medical coding and reimbursement textbooks, and as an adjunct instructor. As a member of AHIMA, I have served in as an AHIMA task force member & AHIMA textbook reviewer. I have also coded and audited interventional cardiology records for a radiology company, have coded both inpatient hospital records and outpatient surgery records for a teaching facility, and have also assisted with claims denial management for physician-based interventional cardiology services. As owner and moderator of multiple coding and billing related Web groups, I work to provide mentoring and certification prep resources to students and tools and resources for inpatient coders struggling with the new MS-DRGs. I also develop and edit online coding courses for educational institutions and consulting companies and have recently completed and published a study guide specifically for the multiple choice part of the CCS credential. I am also one of the panelists for Advance for HIM’s Coding Q&A online column and a member of Ingenix’s Coding and Referential Advisory Board. Primary professional goal: to teach medical coding or other HIM classes as an adjunct online remote instructor for an academic institution with a reputable CAHIIM-approved program while remaining in my current position as a remote internal quality assurance auditor for an HIM consulting company. Specialties: certification exam preparation; student coder mentoring; inpatient coding; ancillary outpatient coding; medical coding education (e.g. course development; test bank creation)
