About Christina Ely

There are many things that I have done in my life. The most rewarding has been teaching and publishing. Teaching has been my passion since I was certified many years ago. I enjoyed teaching kindergarten through 12th grade for over 35 years. I also enjoyed working with and teaching young adults at the college level. I was a part-time adjunct professor at our local college for 12 years. I have been a positive influence in the lives of the students. I am honored to have helped them further their education. Newspaper publishing was very rewarding because it allowed me to chronicle the daily life of a small mining town in New Mexico. I worked in this industry for 22 years, and when times became tough for newspapers, I was able to sell it. The man I sold it to kept it as an independently owned daily newspaper, which I believe is the backbone of our democracy. I am so grateful my staff and the residents of my hometown were able to keep their papers. I hold a B.A. and M.A. in Educational Leadership and Spanish, and I am endorsed in Bilingual and Teaching English as a Second Language by New Mexico. I also hold licenses in Mississippi, Virginia, and Texas, with an administrative one in Virginia and New Mexico. I have used this knowledge to seek out teaching positions where I can be most effective. I am employed by Saint Gregory the Great Catholic School in Virginia Beach, VA. I believe in the importance of heart and caring, which accompany the mission of teaching and administration. True caring matters in these trying times for education in our country. I feel blessed that I can contribute to a better life for our students through education. Being an Instructor Trainer for the American Red Cross in Aquatics, Safety, and CPR allows me to volunteer and use my skills to help improve our world.
