Background

About Christine K.

I have worked as a greenhouse grower for 13 years and have gained experience supervising assistants, assessing plant health, monitoring pest and plant disease issues, spraying pesticides, and conversing with school groups during greenhouse tours and with customers at plant trade shows. While obtaining my B.S. Botany degree at UW-Madison, I worked as a research assistant for over a year in a laboratory where I learned about growing, pollinating, harvesting, and performing experiments on plants while collecting and assessing data; the collected data was used in a published scientific journal article. I also assisted in an outdoor field research experiment concerning prairie grasses where I observed plant growth and recorded data. After earning my degree, I held a summer internship position in the Smoky Mountains where I set up vegetation plots, gathered and recorded data on rare plant populations, and collected seeds from grasses. I have experience managing time wisely, making supervisory decisions, trouble-shooting problems, training new hires, dealing with conflicts that arise, creating process and procedure documents, evaluating and updating procedures, collecting and recording data, and ordering supplies. The volunteer work I have performed over the years in my community has helped me cultivate my communication, leadership skills and my diplomacy with others. I am familiar with using Microsoft Excel, MS Word, MS PowerPoint, and MS Teams, and am fluent in Spanish at a professional level. I am detail-oriented, hard-working, willing to learn new things, and enjoy working in a position where I can use my knowledge of plants and technical skills.
