Background
About Christine Pack
Family History is my niche, as people say. I remember, while in my adolescence, our Sunday school teachers inviting us to their home to transcribe and index records from copied manuscripts to indexing cards. The spirit of Elijah was kindled inside of me. Post mission, I learned family history and genealogy was a college major at Brigham Young University and it perfectly matched up with my spiritual desire, along with an admonition found in my patriarchal blessing. Family history and genealogy are everchanging, ever-growing. When I graduated from BYU, computers were being introduced for the first time within genealogy research. I have stayed abreast of computer and internet genealogy concepts and have rounded out my skills, most recently, while facilitating the BYU-I/Pathways online course about the use of personal software programs and internet processes of family history work. I learned our elementary school’s library circulation software program within a few weeks of hiring and found myself tutoring my peers who had been working in the system longer than I. Because I have been a part of or headed many non-profit organizations, I feel qualified to work with others towards a common goal and purpose. I also enjoy communicating with and helping others problem solve. Most recently I’ve taken an elementary library that had fallen out of usefulness from years of neglect to a comfortable, welcoming, well-organized space that now sees hundreds of users a week. This last action surprised my associates and faculty members as they had no expectation of things improving from past years. You’ll note that all of my recent jobs have increased my skills for working with students of all ages and each school’s faculty and administrative leadership. Motherhood has been my main priority for these many years, however, with a new home situation I have needed and wanted to put my talents and skills to work. I know I don’t have much professional experience, yet by staying involved in a variety of work and volunteer opportunities my mind has stayed actively engaged through my years as a homemaker.
