About Christopher Ackland

I am a Chartered Civil Engineer who has gained experience in both contracting and consultancy, having worked on site and in a design office. My professional life follows the completion of an accredited Civil Engineering degree with a Coastal Engineering specialism. After starting my career at WSP, I now continue to develop my skillset at Moffatt and Nichol (M&N).Swapping the rain and cold for sand and sun, I relocated from the UK to Abu Dhabi in January 2026, following a 6-month assignment, in which time I supported colleagues in opening our first office in the UAE. Having started my career in flood and coastal risk management, I continue to develop professionally, drawing on different approaches to project delivery in my evolving role as a Project Manager. Working alongside a growing number of colleagues in the UAE, my role involves supporting new and existing Clients, and our project partners in the GCC region. I am involved in all phases of project delivery, and help to maintain links to technical specialists across the company, drawing on M&N's extensive expertise across a range of global coastal, marina and port development projects.I have always enjoyed supporting early career and infrastructure professionals via initiatives within and outside of the work place. In particular, they include- Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE) South West - previous Chair's Apprentice, Vice Chair and Senior Vice Chair- South West Infrastructure Partnership - steering ground member of this pan-regional group, for whom (until moving) I presented a podcast named 'Beyond Brunel', named after one of Civil Engineering's founding fathers, which is available on Spotify and Apple- University of Plymouth Professional Mentoring Programme - supporting Civil Engineering students. I remain a mentor for the programme- University of Exeter Student counsellor - providing Civil Engineering Students will valuable insights from practice and professional qualification.I have also author several personal thought pieces entitled 'Ramblings of an Engineer'(see my articles).
