I graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Earth & Environmental Science from the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC). During the Spring, Summer, and Fall semesters of 2020 I was the recycling intern for the Office of Sustainability, Planning, and Project Management at UIC, in which I assisted with the recycling program and analyzed data from a campus-wide waste audit. Once a week I also helped pack and transport soon-to-be-expired food from the UIC hospital to a local homeless shelter, assisting in the effort of diverting more than pounds of food waste from landfills since the program started in 2014. Since the beginning of 2021, I have been working as an Environmental Specialist at Veolia in East Chicago, IN. Sample waste streams and unknown containers according to prescribed policies and procedures. In this role I am responsible for the classification, segregation, packaging, labeling, loading, unloading, manifesting, transportation, placarding and small remedial activities such as decontamination work, use of hand tools for spill clean-up/small remediation projects. I have become familiar with all U. S. Department of Transportation (DOT)/Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and VES-TS regulations required in submitting paper work to expedite disposal of hazardous waste and pertaining to the transportation of hazardous and non-hazardous materials. I also perform daily inspections of vehicle and/or trailer prior to driving to ensure safety and integrity of equipment.
