About Christopher Batey

I am a passionate software engineer with two decades of experience specialising in the design, development, and delivery of large scale server-side systems. I love programming, distributed systems and getting involved in performance related work. I’ve worked on both deploying large scale systems at companies and creating the building blocks for distributed systems including databases and clustering software. For the last 5 years i've been specialising in Platform Engineering, aiming to speed up delivery via building self service capabilities. I love to learn and mentor others and enjoy being around and working with people that have a similar appetite for knowledge. I enjoy sharing my experience via my blog and conference talks. Some recent examples are:* How JVMs behave in Linux containers * How lightweight transactions (Paxos) work in Cassandra * Encouraging Java developers to learn about asynchronous programming * How the dynamo paper changed the database world I am happy to technically lead projects, teams, and departments however I am only interested in roles where I also remain a hands-on software engineer.
