About Christopher Carruba

Proven leader with a great work ethic, can adapt and stay focused in high intensity, stressful environments. After graduating high school, I served 4 years in the U.S. Army as a Patriot Missile Operator where I gained knowledge in maintaining and repairing the advanced radar system. I served as a support arm in Operation Iraqi Freedom in 2003. Went on to the culinary industry and rocketed through the ranks to attain the Executive Chef position (2006-2012) at Trattoria Simpatico in Jamestown, RI. A high volume, fine dining establishment in peak season had ~30 subordinates to manage, schedule, and maintain morale. Crafted seasonal menus, daily specials, and maintained inventory/cost averaging. Invited to cook at two James Beard out-of -house events and won numerous awards. In 2012, I decided to pursue my passion in Physics. Obtained my associate's from the Community College of RI in 2014, my Bachelor of Science-Physics from the University of Rhode Island in 2016, and a Masters of Science-Physics in 2019 (URI). I am currently pursuing my PhD in Physics and I am an Adjunct Faculty in the Physics department at CCRI. My current research is in the electronic structure of surfaces and interfaces with deployment of multiple UHV spectroscopy and analysis techniques.
