About Christopher Caton

During my professional career in the hospitality industry, I ended up being a victim of intimate partner violence. Having to go through the legal system was one of the worst experiences of my life, and I felt that nobody should have to experience what I did. It was at that point that I decided to go back to school and get my Bachelors of Science in Criminal Justice. I received my Associates with high distinctions in Pittsburgh, which led me to the University of North Texas on an academic scholarship for my BS. At this point I began my journey as a legal advocate with the Women’s Center and Shelter of Greater Pittsburgh. After my time with WC & S, I then took a crisis counselor role with the Trevor Project, as they helped spearhead the rollout of the LGBTQIA+ subnetwork for 988. From my time as a counselor, I was promoted to a supervisor role, and finally a team lead role. After several years with such an amazing organization, it breaks my heart that the subnetwork is being shutdown. I like to look at my diverse educational and professional background as something that has helped me grow as a person over the years, and have helped to hone my ability to be patient and empathetic towards others. These are skills that I cherish and I enjoy bringing into my new found passion, thus setting me apart from others. I see myself as a “jack of all trades”, and I absorb information like a sponge. Not only am I a quick learner, but I am always ready to go above and beyond. My education and its furtherance, coupled with my working experience, makes me a strong contender for anything that comes across my path.
