My career journey has been a dynamic and thoughtful progression, with each step intentionally building on the last. I’ve successfully navigated different industries and roles, while consistently growing my skills and expertise. My transition from finance to human resources, followed by my decision to specialize in benefits management, is a clear example of my strategic thinking and adaptability.My recent request to cross-train in learning and development (L&D) was a natural extension of my growing HR expertise. The intersection between benefits and L&D may seem unlikely at first glance, but both fields do share some key qualities. Both require strong communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to troubleshoot issues—whether navigating benefits laws and reconciling discrepancies or developing and delivering training programs.My experience in benefits management, where I've not only processed benefits but also engaged with the underlying laws, auditing, and negotiation, provides a strong foundation for my work in L&D. My experience in creating a training manual for my department shows I’m thinking about how to improve and standardize processes, a skill that will continue to benefit my HR career.As I learn more about L&D, I may find synergies between the two areas that allow me to introduce new approaches to training in benefits or even bring L&D strategies into benefits management, helping, my organization innovate in both fields.
