About Christopher Deery

I currently serve as the Director of the Financial Investigations' unit at Independence Health Group, supporting operations for Independence Blue Cross, AmeriHealth New Jersey, Independence Administrators and AmeriHealth Administrators. I worked at Independence in numerous roles within this team since 2005. In 2018, I was appointed to the Board of Directors of the Pennsylvania Insurance Fraud Prevention Authority (IFPA), where I currently serve as Board Secretary, I also serve on the Board of Directors of the National Health Care Anti-Fraud Association (NHCAA). I have a B.S. in Accounting from Lehigh University and an MBA from Drexel University. I am a Certified Fraud Examiner and Accredited Healthcare Fraud Investigator. Before joining Independence, I served as a Captain on Active Duty in the United States Army. While in the Army, I deployed in support of Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation Iraqi Freedom. As a Platoon Leader, Executive Officer, and acting Company Commander, I had the opportunity to work with NASA, the United Stated Border Patrol and the Joint Task Force Six, a multi-service operation by the United States Department of Defense for counterdrug and anti-terrorist operations. I also served as a Battalion Training and Intelligence Officer, and had the opportunity to serve on the staff of The Chief of Transportation, a two-star General. I continue to be passionate about the military, and the men and women who serve in it. I previously served as the Chairman of the Board of Directors for The Veterans Group. I also served as the Founding President of the I-Vets, an associate resource group focused on Veteran issues at Independence. I am currently the Adjutant at the American Legion Tatem-Shields Post 17, Collingswood, NJ. In my free time I like to spend time with my family, golf, and follow LSU and Army football.
