About Christopher Edmonds
Christopher Edmonds is Associate Professor of Development and International Economics, Institute for International Strategy, Tokyo International University (TIU). He obtained his Ph.D. in Agricultural and Resource Economics (ARE) from the University of California- Berkeley (UC-Berkeley) in 1998. He had previously obtained a Bachelor of Science Degree in Industrial and Labor Relations at Cornell University in 1985, and Master’s Degrees in ARE from UC-Berkeley (1991) and in Public Policy Studies from the University of Chicago (1988). Prof. Edmonds has numerous publications, including papers in the Asian Development Review, Asian Economic Journal, Journal of Asian Economics, Agricultural Economics, Journal of Nutrition & Food Sciences, Journal of Sustainable Development, Tourism Economics, and the Journal of Travel Research. He has edited/authored three books—Pacific Opportunities: Leveraging Asia’s Growth (Asian Development Bank and Asian Development Bank Institute, 2015), Reducing Poverty in Asia: Emerging Issues in Growth, Targeting, and Measurement (Edward Elgar Publishing, 2003), and Defining an Agenda for Poverty Reduction: Proceedings of the First Asia and Pacific Forum on Poverty (Asian Development Bank, 2002); and contributed chapters to several other monographs. Before joining the faculty of Tokyo International University, Prof. Edmonds was Senior Economist in the Pacific Department at the Asian Development Bank (ADB), where he managed the Department’s economics team and acted as Editor-in-Chief for the Department’s flagship publication, the Pacific Economic Monitor. He worked on technical assistance projects in the Pacific Region and provided economic inputs to loan and grant project teams. Over more than a dozen years of service at ADB Prof. Edmonds held a number of posts, including working as an Economist in the Strategy & Policy Department (2008-09), the East Asia Regional Department (2006-08), and the Economic Research
