I have more than nine years of experience in the IT sector, making decisions about building and maintaining critical hardware and software infrastructure, and providing first-class support for end-users. My current role is to lead the IT teams for one of the most respected and admired tech companies in Canada. Wealthsimple has grown at a rapid pace, scaling from 100 employees when I joined the firm in 2018 to almost 1,800. As a manager, it is critical to ensure we offer all employees a full range of software support, as well as excellent hardware at the best possible price. Ensuring corporate automation that is efficient and secure is always a challenge, especially when everyone was working from home during the pandemic. Our IT team consistently exceeds all expectations, not only in meeting tech needs but by addressing workflow and security challenges as they arise. Communication skills are key for anyone in a leadership role. Providing team members with regular, transparent, constructive feedback has been critical to my success. It is also essential to be a good listener: I strive to understand a problem thoroughly before attempting to solve it. This applies whether dealing with concerns within the IT team or in managing cross-departmental projects. Multitasking and attention to detail are at my core, essential in dealing with both ambiguity and constant change in a fast-paced environment. I demonstrate excellent organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills every day, with both passion and patience. This position provides me with a solid understanding of the operations and organization of a large, innovative company, one that has seen exponential growth.
