Background

About Christopher Engel

I am an Electrical and Computer Engineering Master's graduate from North Carolina State University with a Bachelor of Science in Robotics Engineering from Worcester Polytechnic Institute. I am bilingual, fluent in both English and Japanese, which will allow me to bring a unique perspective and skill set that I believe could be invaluable to many companies. My focus in my master's program was to delve into electric motor design and controls for automotive applications, exploring facets such as battery technology, electrical controls, and power electronics. My foundational education in robotics engineering has endowed me with a comprehensive understanding of electrical systems, computer programming, and mechanical engineering, which also gives me a unique ability to communicate and bridge the gap between different engineers. A significant portion of my academic journey has been dedicated to advanced power electronics, honing skills in areas such as packaging, semiconductor device fundamentals, power converters, digital control of power converters, resonant power converters, electro-mechanical system design, grid interactive power electronics, and electrical machine dynamics and controls. Currently I am working as an electrical engineer at NCSU's FREEDM Systems Center on ultra low cost extreme fast charging using solid state transformers.
