About Christopher Harrison

I am a Senate Distinguished Professor of chemistry at San Diego State University with decades of experience in advancing analytical chemistry. My research centers on developing our fundamental understanding of capillary electrophoresis and developing innovative analytical methods, with applications ranging from measurement of environmental contaminants to the search for traces of past life on Mars. I’m proud to have contributed to the field through numerous publications in high-impact journals, showcasing the exciting discoveries my students and I have made. As an educator, I strive to create impactful and engaging learning experiences for my students. I’ve worked to modernize the teaching of the analytical chemistry curricula and emphasize active learning opportunities that foster a deeper understanding of the material. Mentoring is another cornerstone of my career—I take great pride in guiding both undergraduate and graduate students as they navigate their academic and professional paths. Seeing my mentees thrive in their careers is one of the most rewarding aspects of my work. Balancing research, teaching, and mentoring allows me to make a meaningful impact on both the scientific community and the lives of my students.
