About Christopher Janaro

Chris has undergone a career change in journalism, transitioning from a seasoned visual storyteller to a versatile editorial writer. After earning his BFA in Photography from SUNY Purchase, he served in the U.S. Navy, working in avionics, where he began documenting his experience and deployment. After his enlistment ended, he enrolled at The School of Visual Arts, earned his MFA in Photography and Videography, and began taking his first photojournalism assignments. Throughout his career in photography and videography, Chris has had the privilege of covering significant events, including the 2016 and 2020 U.S. presidential elections, the pandemic, and the January 6th captial insurrection. His work has garnered recognition and has been featured in esteemed print and online publications such as Bloomberg, New York Magazine, The Wall Street Journal, Financial Times, ProPublica, People Magazine, The Guardian, Vanity Fair, Gothamist, Cosmopolitan, and PDN. In August 2022, Chris enrolled at CUNY's Craig Newmark J-School to make the leap into broader journalism. There, he honed his writing skills, concentrating on his metro beat in Queens City District 14 in the Rockaways and delving into national housing market issues. During the summer of 2023, he interned with PCMag as their editorial intern and had the opportunity to write numerous articles, including a few that he pitched. This experience, coupled with his own interest in tech and the burgeoning AI boom, has made it one of his favored beats to cover. He is presently in the final semester of his J-School MA program, concentrating in business and economics reporting, and is slated for graduation in December 2023.
