About Christopher Kunder

For the past twelve years, as a Social Studies teacher at Orchard Center High School, I have demonstrated a record of success increasing student achievement for a diverse population of at-risk students. Based on my classroom success and staff leadership, I was promoted to Lead Teacher in 2008. My experience as Lead Teacher has improved my classroom practice because it has taught me the power and importance of building positive trusting relationships with students. It has also pushed me to be a more flexible and reflective teacher, carefully considering each student’s interests, needs, and abilities in order to effectively differentiate instruction for the success of each individual learner. The use of research based teaching strategies and the development of positive relationships with my students is the foundation on which I design effective social studies instruction. I see myself not simply as a teacher of history, but as a guide and model to assist students in taking control of their own learning, setting goals, and mastering the skills necessary to be a lifelong learner prepared for success in the 21st century.
