Background

About Christopher Leishman

I aim to do my part for the revolution of our energy economy, through integrating research with undergraduate education to help forge new generations of scientific change-makers.My teaching focuses on in-lab practical training and an empirical, experiential approach to instilling a working intuition into chemical and physical principles operating in the natural world and technology. My research focuses on novel materials that exploit unique photophysical and photochemical properties on the nanoscale towards applications in solar energy harvesting, quantum information technology, and early detection and treatment of cancer. I employ a comprehensive toolbox of time-resolved and steady-state spectroscopic methods (Transient Absorption, Luminescence, Raman, UV-Vis, and IR) supported by state of the art scanning-probe, electron, and optical imaging. In concert with with multiscale simulations, my work reveals fundamental principles to guide the rational materials design.
