Background
About Christopher Licata
I have spent my adult life learning about, working in and exploring the forests in the magnificent Western United States. Twin Pine Bison Ranch 2023 - current Hayden Outdoors Real Estate LLC | 2021 - 2023 Education | 1995-2004, 2007-2012 PhD Biological Sciences: Biodiversity, Ecology and Evolution Denver University | 2007-2012 | College of Natural Sciences and Mathematics Dissertation Title: Fire-derived charcoal along an ecological gradient in the Colorado Front Range Master’s of Science Forest Soils University of Washington | | School of Environmental and Forest Sciences Bachelor’s of Science Natural Resource Management (Accredited Society of American Foresters program) University of Montana | | College of Forestry and Conservation Cert. of Achievement Forestry Technician | 1995 | Feather River College (Quincy, CA) Forestry/Logging Industry | started 1995 I earned the title Forester in and have been active in the woods for 25 years. Since 2009, I have been providing Forestry Consulting and Services along The Colorado Front Range and in the Rocky Mountains. I work solo or partner with larger companies completing Forest Management Plans and other projects. A key accomplishment in 2015, was writing an Aspen Forest Sustainability Plan for three mountain subdivisions in central CO. This comprehensive plan provided guidance for maintaining and regenerating aspen forests using a combination of field work and remote sensing integrated with the latest research. In 2005, I was part of the Region 1 Timber Strike Team based in Montana preparing sale units and streamside management zones. I was initially certified as a US Forest Service Class B Apprentice Sawyer in 1998. Since then, I learned how to run chainsaws, log skidders, forestry skid steers and woodchippers. Research/Teaching | 1998-2003, 2007-2012 At UW, I was involved in many aspects of a Long-Term Site Productivity study (LTSP), a major forestry research project monitoring an entire commercial timber rotation (40 years). Specific tasks included grant writing, study design, sample collecting and chemical analysis. I have also been leading or junior author on several journal articles. On the teaching side, I instructed students in the field and the laboratory for several different courses: Conservation Biology, Ecology, Concepts in Biology, Soils and Land Use, Introduction to Soils and Introduction to Environmental Science.
