About Christopher Long

I have worked full time in the fabrication industry for over the past 18 years, starting off as a craft employee and working my way into management after earning a degree in Mechanical Engineering. Welding has always been my passion ever since a very young age and have followed that passion throughout my life. I went to work for Kiewit right after College in 2008, and was involved in various aspects of the offshore fabrication industry. In October of 2017 I was requested to assist TIC on large projects in the areas of quality and welding engineering. My employment history has provided skills and proficiency with multiple welding processes, welding techniques, welding engineering topics, robotics, automation, industry codes and standards, as well as operations and quality management. While superintendent at KOS I managed welding related personnel, planning and scheduling efforts, and operations for the KOS facilities including all structural welding engineering R&D efforts, robotics, and automation. Developed, implemented, and managed robotic and automation programs for structural welding application such as girders and nodes, as well as other weldments. Also oversaw the compliance program for AISC while at KOS. Due to the often special welding requirements of offshore structures. I often worked with various consumable vendors to develop special and often very custom consumables to meet weld property requirements. I enjoy interesting and challenging issues related to welding and fabrication.
