Background

About Christopher Marsh

Is there a through-line for a stay-at-home dad who has an academic and vocational background in music, business, social services, and religion? Those varied experiences have all contributed to my passions for exploring human problems with finding human solutions. After studying music business and starting an anti-trafficking student organization in college, I went on to work in social services, serving at-risk youth and adults with disabilities. Later, while working various contract jobs and being a stay-at-home dad for three young'uns, I completed a ThM in New Testament & Greek and two years of coursework in a PhD program before transitioning to law school. In my current role as a student of the law am preparing to understand our legal systems, analyze arguments, and persuade others—ultimately in an effort to serve clients and to make the world a better place. And I bring all of my experiences to bear on my studies—entrepreneurship, leadership, counseling, parenting, providing social services, professional writing, academic research, and even interpreting historical documents. These have added motivation, understanding, and depth to my legal studies and my work. I have focused my efforts at the intersection of jurisprudence and human rights while developing my skills in legal writing and appellate advocacy. I also have a longstanding interest in foreign and international law. To that end I am: Completing a Certificate in Advocacy Served in two judicial externships at:* The U.S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit * The Tennessee Supreme Court ‍ Competed in three moot court competitions covering everything from Federal Sentencing to the Second Amendment to Bankruptcy Studied abroad in France, where I studied French Law and German criminal procedure, explored the UK, and visited the European Union parliament in Brussels, Belgium Publishing an article on constitutional jurisprudence and the Sixth Amendment Confrontation Clause I also serve as: Research Editor for The University of Memphis Law Review President of Federal Bar Association Secretary of International Law Society 🧐 Research Assistant to Professor Daniel Kiel (our in-house constitutional law scholar and expert on education & civil rights)
