About Christopher McHugh

I have worked in the marine survey industry for over 10 years and hold a B.S. in Marine Science/Applied Geophysics, an M.S. in Hydrographic Science. I am a IHO CAT A and NSPS/ACSM Certified Hydrographer. I am passionate about giving back to the academic system and do so by teaching hydrographic science, Physical Geography, and data/project management at multiple universities including TAMUCC and USM. I also give back to our survey community through different organizations. I currently sit on the THSOA National Board and am an active member of the OSIG Committee in the Society for Underwater Technology. Recently I accepted to chair the Marine Renewables and Energy Committee. I have managed and overseen all technical aspects of several large Offshore Wind Farm projects as well as other large and small vessels' high-resolution shallow water geophysical / hydrographic surveys. My main interests are in using: high precision GNSS positioning; marine acoustics; applied geophysics; and remote sensing to explore and model coastal processes, sub-floor geology, and seafloor bathymetry. I aim to help the industry integrate these practices with autonomous systems, machine learning, and AI to increase QA/QC and reduce offshore risk and environmental impacts, in order to provide a better solution to data gathering and data use.
