About Christopher McKenzie

In the words of Dr. Maxinee Black Arias-Valentin,"Be good to nursing, and nursing will be good to you." I strive to uphold my mentor and former nursing professor's infamous quote every day. As a registered nurse and health professions educator, I possess over 17 years of distinguished academic and clinical experience in critical care medicine and public health. I am a Minnesota March of Dimes Nurse of the Year finalist for excellence in critical care nurse nursing, and I have been recognized for upholding professional standards in education and practice at the bedside. In my practice, I aspire to enhance the patient experience through patient-focused education and advocacy initiatives. My research interests include LGBTQIA+ inclusive care, aging in minority patient populations, and nursing staff engagement and retention efforts. Academically, I have developed curricula and facilitated undergraduate- and graduate-level courses in consumer health; environmental health; health communications; global health; public health program planning and evaluation; healthcare law and ethics; healthcare quality improvement; and patient safety.
