About Christopher Nauman

As a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Delaware, I lead a team of six researchers working on a DARPA-funded project to upcycle waste plastics into value-added products using a nonconventional yeast. I have over seven years of experience in molecular biology, biochemistry, and cell biology, and a PhD in Molecular Biology and Biochemistry from UMKC. My passion is to find innovative solutions for environmental and health challenges, using my expertise in yeast genetic engineering and metabolism, microbiome analysis, and gene editing. I have developed and tested genetic tools and metabolic pathways to enhance the biomass yield and product formation of yeast using aliphatic compounds derived from plastic oxidative pyrolysis. I have also applied my laboratory skills to conduct experiments and validate results, and I have prepared reports and presentations for various stakeholders. I am motivated by the mission of creating a more sustainable and circular economy, and I bring diverse perspectives and experiences from my previous academic and entrepreneurial endeavors.
