About Christopher Nugarus

I am a motivated and experienced trial lawyer with a blend of civil and criminal litigation experience including felony prosecution, personal injury, domestic relations, and civil rights. I am licensed to practice in Illinois and the Northern District of Illinois as a member of both the General and Trial Bar. I currently serve as an Assistant State's Attorney in the Cook County State's Attorney's Civil Actions Bureau where I litigate a broad range of civil matters in state and federal courts. In my current role, I defend government entities and their employees when named in personal injury claims and a variety of civil rights claims brought under Section 1983 for failure to protect, excessive force, denial of medical care claims, wrongful/reverse conviction cases, and other negligence cases. As a former prosecutor with extensive litigation experience, I draw on my trial practice experience to zealously represent my clients in civil practice. Previously, I held positions in government and plaintiff-side civil litigation firms where I acquired substantial experience conducting trials, handling personal injury cases, and working up other civil matters. Through those experiences I became proficient at building client relationships and litigating complex matters. I am a well organized and detail oriented self-starter with superior communication, drafting, and critical-thinking skills. I have a proven track record of success independently managing large caseloads involving time sensitive work in high pressure situations.
