About Christopher Richards

Following the completion of my PhD in animal model biology, I decided a career in research wasn't for me. After a brief stint in regulatory affairs, I was lucky to work for a biotech start-up, supporting a variety of research and commercialisation projects across veterinary, human health and agriculture areas. This role gave me a new appreciation for the importance of research and making sure it is used to improve society. As a result, I now enjoy working with researchers to help them develop their ideas, secure funding and drive long term strategies to ultimately translate their research into real-world impact.As a program manager at the Murdoch Children’s Research Institute, I manage a research program around antibiotic use and resistance in children. I support clinician-scientists to find better ways to use antibiotics in children and translate their findings into clinical settings to improve health outcomes. Our mission is to make precision antibiotic therapy a reality for all children and reduce the threat of antibiotic resistance.My scientific research background coupled with my experience in healthcare, industry and regulatory sectors gives me a unique perspective and allows me to provide key strategic advice to guide large research programs. Outside of work, I am a committee member and treasurer for the Genetics Support Network Victoria, a state-wide organisation that supports and advocates for people with rare and undiagnosed genetic conditions. I also volunteer as a grant writer for a not-for-profit organisation, Welcome to my yard, that provides holistic and long-term support for street-based children, young people and families in in Nepal. I also have a strong interest in science communication, and through my various roles I have developed strong communication skills in several areas. I am continually looking to improve my skills in this area and I am always on the lookout for new opportunities to explore.
